Many have heard of the tragedy that has struck our small community of Tumbler Ridge. In the early morning of Sunday, May 31, 20009, a home exploded leaving nothing behind but debris. As many as 30 other homes were damaged in this incident and there was at least one fatality and several serious injuries.

Some of the homes sustained structural damage and the families who lived in them will have to seek alternate accommodations for as long as six to eight months while their homes are repaired or, as in the case of a few, completely rebuilt.

We contacted our clients to see if any were willing to help out some fellow community members and the following are just a few of the responses we've received.

What a horrible ocurrence! My studio suite is currently vacant, as you know. I am certainly willing to offer it to victims of this terrible event, under your supervision. I don't know how helpful such a small place would be. ... If my apartment can be of assistance, please offer it to anyone in whom you have confidence to use it use it freely on a temporary basis. - Sandy H.
I am so very sorry to hear of this hardship. I send best wishes to the families and the community for a speedy recovery. It is brilliant to send this request out; I hope you get enough support to satisfy the need. - Victoria W.
[We] will remember you all in prayer… - Cari M.
What a surprise to read [the news]. We have been on holidays and just returned yesterday so had no idea and had not heard anything. All I can say is Oh my god and how devastating for all those involved.
We don't have a home to offer but please let us know if there is any sort of fund established that we could donate too. We would like to help out. - Susan & Doug S.

We do have some temporary accommodations available for anyone who has need of relocating due to this issue. Some of our owners have agreed to waive the first month's rent to allow time for assessments and insurance coverage to step in. If you are in need of accommodations, please contact Victim Services (250-242-5252 - police station).

If you have accomodations you would like to offer to those in need, we would be more than happy to assist you making the appropriate arrangements. We offer our assisstance in this regard at no charge. In addition, the Lake View Credit Union has set up a fund for those affected by the blast. You can contact the Tumbler Ridge branch at 250-242-4871.
